The Ubiquiti airMAX NanoStation M5 MiMO (NSM5) is one of the most popular airMAX products with a variety of uses, it is a powerful all-in-one outdoor unit including a dual polarised 16 dBi antenna (MIMO) for the 5 GHz band. The NSM5 allows real communication speeds up to 150 Mbps between the 2 radios in an ideal link. Real world speeds at a reasonable distance of up to 1Km Line of Sight would get between 50-80 Mbps.
The Nanostation M5 supports creating secure PTP or PTMP links between other Ubiquiti airMAX Products using Ubiquiti's proprietary airMAX technology, the NSM5 can also be used to attach compatible 5Ghz client devices to the network along side other Ubiquiti devices (airMAX must be disabled to support non Ubiquiti Equipment). The NanoStation M5 takes advantage of the much clearer 5Ghz frequency making it perfect for city use when linking 2 buildings or deploying multiple cameras or outdoor access points for events for static services such as car parks.
For longer links of up to 2Km we recommend the Ubiquiti NanoBeam NBE-M5-19 with its narrow beam width allowing for a more directional link with reduced interference. Various mounting options are available for the NanoStations including a window/wall mount or an external J pole Mount for the exterior of your building.
Another advantage is, beside of high data transfer rates thanks to the use of 802.11n standard, time multiplex TDMA, which allows the unit in the AP mode connect multiple clients with low latency.
